The Chess & Mates Open consist of two casual chess tournaments set in the heart of Brussels, hosted in the historic Bourse building.

• Rapid tournament

  • 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM

  • 6 rounds

  • 10 min + 3 sec

  • Three strength- based categories (Red, Yellow & Black mates)

• Blitz tournament

  • 4:30 PM - 6PM

  • 6 rounds

  • 3 min + 2 sec

  • Three strength- based categories (Red, Yellow & Black mates)

Point System

• Players collect points throughout the day to qualify for the Sunday finals:

  • Participation in a tournament (rapid or blitz) = 2 points

  • Per game result:

    • Win = 2 pt

    • Draw = 1 pt

  • Bonus for top 3

    • If you finsh in the top 3 of your category in a tournament, you earn an extra 2 bonus points

All points from the Rapid and Blitz tournaments are added together. The top 8 players in each category (Red, Yellow and Black Mates) advance to the knockout finals, held in the breathtaking Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert.

This final phase will follow an elimination format, with quarterfinals, semifinals and a grand final.

To make the experience even more thrilling, the final day will feature live commentary allowing spectators both on-site and online to follow the action, the upsets, and the glory as the 8 best Red, Yellow and Black Mates battle for the Chess & Mates title.
